If you reflect back over your childhood can you recall things that you did that required intense concentration? As a child I was taught many experiments that required very intense concentration, like creating fire on a piece of paper with a magnifying glass and walking across a river on a log. Did you try these? River crossing was my favorite as to this day I have never fallen off that log, but I managed to distract others and smile when they got their dunking in the water.
Maybe you were one of those students whose school reports continually had the comment “must concentrate in class, or must concentrate on a specific subject”? Hey I can relate to this, continually the comment was there, much more fun concentrating on a log.
It is a pity that the value of learning how to concentrate and the importance of the power of concentration is not emphasized during school years.
How many adults continue to lack the ability to concentrate on the important issues in life? Maybe you would still rather be concentrating on the unimportant issues.
How many adults are all over the place, one thing today, something different tomorrow, no focus on anything in particular, each day just goes by? Sounds familiar?
Children who present with similar traits are often said to have an attention deficit, they have an inability to concentrate.
Concentration is a word with many meanings, relating to chemistry “concentration” refers to the measure of substances that are mixed together whereas in physics it relates to the density of the solutes in the solution. Economically speaking the (market) concentration is looking at the production share of certain firms in a certain market.
What horror stories were told relating to concentration (camps) from the worlds wars where masses of people where held in small areas to enable easier control by the enemy forces. These camps have been recorded in history since the time of the Assyrians. The meaning is about control.
Is it these meanings that make concentrating difficult for you? Is it the meaning of the word that stops you concentrating on your success?
Concentration is learning how to give your undivided attention to what it is in your life that will mean success to you. It is about learning how to control your mind until you attain your desire.
Walking across a river on a log, requires undivided attention to be successful, I succeeded because as a young child I saw that as being totally successful, maybe the tomboy attitude. I continually saw myself walk from one side to the other and I continually saw the others falling in. I had learned the power of concentration, a power that I have continued to use to create success.
We are not born with the ability to concentrate, it is a learned process of being able to block out the distractions that stop success from happening. Let your mind wander, kiss success goodbye.
Those exam failures, your mind wandered maybe just for a short period, your focus was lost, and you know the results. The diet you start every New Year's Day, you don't succeed because your power of concentration has not been developed, too many distractions in the cupboard.
Perhaps you desire a new job, to start a new business or improve your health and lose weight, the ability to be successful means that you have to take control of your mind and in clear and vivid form concentrate on the end result, see the job, see the business, see yourself healthy and slimmer, retain that focus until the end result, you will be successful. You will have discovered the power of concentration.
