Many components are involved in weight loss. Genetics, eating habits, activity levels and body chemistry are just a few. However, all the major diet fads fail to mention toxins and their role in obesity. Currently toxins are a crucial element in fat loss. Many toxins are fat-soluble and most contaminants that accumulate in our bodies do so in fat. For example fat-soluble vitamins essential for our function are toxic at high doses for prolonged periods because of bioaccumulation. On the other hand, water-soluble vitamins do not bio accumulate therefore; can be taken in higher dosages for extended periods with minimal injury to our bodies. According to a recent study, there are 27 to 130 toxic chemicals stored in human fat. There are now over 75,000 chemicals registered with the Environmental Protection Agency with only about 25% of those that have been through basic toxicity testing. Each year we add an average of over 2,000 new chemicals to our environment. With increases in chemical production every year, unless we take steps to limit exposure we can expect absorption of these toxins to rise as well. With these challenges escalating, it is imperative that we limit our exposure to these chemicals if we wish to remain trim, healthy, and energized. An interesting study done with two groups of rats demonstrated toxins influence on obesity. One group they exposed to a pesticide while the other group was not. Both groups ingested the same quantity of food. The rats exposed to pesticides became obese while the other group maintained relatively the same weight. They even reduced the food given to the obese rats, yet this group continued to increase their weight while being exposed to the toxins. According to James A. Ferrel M.D., the weight gain related to toxins is a combination of two factors: 1. Chemicals damage the body's natural weight control (energy storage) mechanisms. 2. Fat absorbs many toxins in our environment contained in food, pesticides, personal care, household items, etc. In order to remove the toxins from the blood stream and protect the body from cellular damage, the body's intelligence system calls for the manufacture of more fat. Toxins "jailed in fat" cannot do their potential damage. One solution is to limit exposure to food chain toxins by selecting organic natural whole foods such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes, while avoiding food additives in the How To Read Labels Avoid List.
Periodically cleanse and detoxify. A modified fast such as a juice cleanse is an effective way the help rid the body of harmful toxins. Choose organic fruits and vegetables and implement it monthly for 3 - 7 days. See a list of Natural Methods Of Cleansing for healthy cleansing options.
