To strengthen the immune system, one must address the needs of the whole body. A strong immune system is essential for health. It is a very complex system of the body, involving the skin, intestines, nasal mucosa, blood, lymph and many other organs and tissues. Factors that impair the immune system include nutrient deficiencies, contaminated air, water and food, unhealthful lifestyles and too much exposure to harmful microbes. Other factors that weaken the immune system are negative attitudes and emotions and the presence of toxic metals, toxic chemicals and biological toxins in the body. Others are sluggish metabolism, lack of rest and sleep, excessive stress or too much exercise. As these causative factors are removed or corrected, the immune system improves. PREVENTING INFECTIONS The following will help prevent all infections in the body. The infrared electric light sauna is the most powerful, least expensive and safest method to protect oneself from infections and enhance the immune system. It should be used preventively as well as for treatment of all types of infections. A healthful lifestyle greatly assists to maintain a strong immune system. The body is the physical temple and it is to be honored. Care for it and never abuse it for any reason. Obtain plenty of rest and sleep, at least eight or more hours daily. Do some regular light exercise, and in particular breathe deeply every day. Do not overdo anything, even the pleasurable activities like exercise or sex, and live simply in as healthy an environment as possible, preferably away from large cities. Positive attitudes and emotions are another important aspect of a healthy immune system. Most important is to realize that one chooses what one thinks and feels. One can bless and forgive everyone and everything. Events are neutral. One interprets events and behaviors the way one chooses. Seeing yourself always as whole and healed will also help to bring about healing and excellent health. Avoid excessive exposure to harmful germs. Excessive exposure to bacteria, viruses and other disease-causing organisms will overwhelm anyoneπs immune system. This occurs due to living in unclean or infected surroundings, confinement with many people such as on planes, from contaminated food, water or air, handling infected materials or though open wounds. Swimming pools and especially hot tubs, for example, spread infection, even when properly disinfected, a fact that terrorists know. One must learn to live simply, as the high-roller lifestyle is associated with more risk of infection. Theatres, hotels, trains, buses, planes, concert halls, arenas and anywhere else that crowds gather are common places to acquire infections. Closed office buildings with central air conditioning and heating, crowded markets and other crowded places also spread infections. The sexual arena, especially the ?bar sceneπ with its loose sexual activity, spreads disease always. Excellent Personal Hygiene. Cleanliness is most important to avoid infection with pathogens that are on food, utensils and on everything one touches. Always wash before meals with soap and water, and always wash the hands after using the toilet. It sounds simple but many do not bother, imperiling themselves and those they love. Diet is always a basic preventive measure. Have regular, sit-down and preferably home-cooked meals of whole, natural foods, organically grown if possible. Eat protein at least twice a day, as protein is most important for the detoxification pathways in the liver, and helps in rebuilding the immune system. Eat several cooked vegetables with at least two meals a day. These provide minerals, vitamins and other substances needed for a healthy body. Raw salads are not as good, as raw food is less well absorbed, the minerals are less concentrated and raw food is often contaminated with microbes unless it is washed thoroughly. Restaurants usually do not know this. Avoid wheat and spelt, all refined grains, sugar in all forms and most cow's milk dairy products. Goat milk products are superior to cow's milk dairy, although some cow's butter is fine. So many nutrients are required for the immune system that just taking a multiple vitamin or an immune-boosting formula is never enough. Healthful eating habits and an excellent diet are primary preventive measures for infection. Water that one drinks, bathes or washes clothes in is a major source of infection today. Water in the form or adequate hydration will also save lives, especially those of children. Most all people believe their water is safe because it is chlorinated and fluoridated. This is not the truth. The chemicals in the water prevent mainly bacterial infection, but seriously weaken the immune system, as they are very toxic. Many organisms are resistant to chlorine, especially the newer, genetically-altered strains of bacteria and viruses. Pools and hot tubs are particularly bad because the warm or hot water supports the growth of microbes. The type of water one drinks is also most important. Reverse osmosis or RO, a common type of filtration, does not remove viruses. Carbon filters are helpful and often added to RO systems. However, they easily become dirty, though they are of some help. They must be changed regularly. Tap water is a disaster to be avoided, including at restaurants. Bring your own bottled water. Distilled water is fine, but is devoid of minerals. Most well water is contaminated to some degree, and all surface water is suspect as it touches many surfaces in its journey to your home. Spring water from a reliable source is your best option at this time for general drinking water. It has been filtered through layers of the earth and is quite pure, relative to the other types of water. Though inconvenient, quality spring water is the best water available for most people. Nutritional supplements are very helpful to prevent infections by helping to eliminate toxic substances, improve digestion and absorption and to balance body chemistry. They are by far most helpful when recommended in an integrated way based on hair mineral analysis from a laboratory that does not wash the hair. The test must be interpreted by the method devised by Dr. Paul C. Eck. See www.drlwilson.com for more information on this subject. Eliminating chronic infections also helps prevent the spread and activation of chronic infections that everyone carries. Healing them is not easy, as many are resistant to drugs and to holistic therapies as well. Often these infections are chronic and will not show up on blood tests, or on dental and sinus x-rays. The only method I have seen to eliminate the deeper chronic infections is electric light sauna therapy. One must use the sauna for several years, however, to undo the deeper layers of chronic infections that everyone has today. TREATMENTS FOR CHRONIC INFECTIONS Diet. During an infection, rest in bed as much as possible. Eat lightly of simple, nourishing foods. If fever is elevated, drink extra water. Fasting on just water for a day or two is fine, but not for more than about 2-3 days. Do not exercise when ill. The Infrared Electric Light Sauna. This is the single most important treatment method I recommend. It heats the body several degrees which disables or kills many microbes, improves circulation, inhibits the sympathetic nervous system and much more. It greatly assists the body to fight infections of all kinds. Other types of saunas are not as effective, though they are better than no sauna at all. If one does not have a sauna, one can still sweat by wrapping oneself in a wet sheet and then covering up with blankets for several hours in bed to induce sweating. This can be done once or even twice a day. Nutritional Supplements. Certain supplements are vital to help fight infections. First in order of importance is high-dose vitamin A, up to 300,000 iu per day for adults for up to two weeks. Another excellent therapy, though somewhat toxic, is low-potency colloidal silver, up to 3 tablespoons per day for a week only if it is a low potency product (15-50 ppm of silver). One must take a lot less if it is a higher potency product of over 50 parts per million of silver. Bee propolis, up to 350 drops three times a day for adults for up to 3 weeks, is also excellent. Other remedies are vitamin C, three grams three or four times a day or more for up to several weeks only Herbs. Echinacea, golden seal. astragalus, certain mushroom extracts, lomatium, and colostrum are excellent remedies. Be sure to take enough. More is better than less of these safe products. I do not recommend herbs first as they are not as consistent in quality as are the vitamin A, silver and propolis. However, they can be excellent in conjunction with sauna therapy and the products mentioned above. At times, one product or method may be sufficient. However, for an acute infection, the best way is to use several products and methods together as they work together. One must take enough of a natural remedy. A common mistake is to take too little. An aggressive approach is needed with these infections. Mineral Supplements. If you wish to take more than the above remedies, copper kills many bacteria, fungi and viruses. Many people have a copper imbalance, impairing their ability to fight infections. Taking about 3 mg three times a day of copper during an infection is often helpful. Zinc is required for the immune system and is very low in many diets. Vegetarian diets are low in zinc, and zinc is removed from refined foods of all kinds. Adults may take about 20 mg of zinc three times a day with copper for infections. Avoid taking iron or iron-containing products during infections as iron favors the growth of bacteria and viruses. We recommend avoiding most other vitamins or herbs during acute infections. Energy Therapies. Treatments with acupressure, jin shin jyutsu, and hand and foot reflexology may be most helpful. Reflexology may be done on oneself at home if no one is available to help. Radionic machines such as the QX, Computron and others may be helpful. Rife and other frequency generators may also be helpful. Energetic methods are never a substitute for the vitamin therapy above. Enemas and Colonic Irrigation. Enemas and colonic irrigation assist elimination through the liver and colon. They also inhibit the sympathetic nervous system and help decongest the liver which produces many infection-fighting chemicals. Up to four coffee enemas per day may be used to lower a fever and help control a severe infection. The problem with these therapies is they require water, which is often contaminated. Therefore one must be very careful to use only well-filtered, spring or distilled water in oneπs enemas. Deep Breathing. Deep breathing can be surprisingly important to help fight infections. Most people do not breathe deeply, depriving the body of adequate oxygen. Oxygen starvation is more common in urban areas, where the oxygen level in the streets can be 20% lower than in rural areas due to automobile use of oxygen and incineration of wastes. Deep breathing also acts like a massage for the internal organs. Practice deep breathing while lying in bed before getting up, for at least half an hour daily. Drinking enough water is another key to oxygenating the body. This is especially true when one has a fever, as water requirements increase at this time. Children can dehydrate faster than adults. Prescription and OTC Drugs. One may use natural remedies in combination with prescription drugs, when needed. However, be careful with patent medicines, both over-the-counter and prescription drugs, as they are all toxic. We suggest them only as a last resort. Do not take Tylenol or Aspirin unless you must to help you sleep, for example, as they weaken the body. Take as few drugs as possible, and only when specifically prescribed or when no alternatives exist. Never use drugs randomly as they upset body chemistry without exception. Always consult someone knowledgeable if you are unsure how to use a remedy or drug, or if you are not making progress after four or five days, as the new infections can be life-threatening. CONCLUSION Eliminating infections is a matter of life and death at times. Knowing the important remedies and keeping this article in a safe place in your home may be a necessity if the number of infection that do not respond to drugs keeps increasing at the present rate. Many wonderful natural remedies are available that are safe and inexpensive. To achieve and maintain a strong immune system, however, one needs to correct all factors that impair the immune system. These include nutrient deficiencies, unhealthful lifestyles, stress, toxic substances in the body, fatigue, negative thinking, and excessive exposure to disease-causing organisms.
