Title: Holism: A Faint Glimmer of a New Paradigm
Tags: holism; new paradigms
Blog Entry: Holism connotes that living and non-living component function as an integrative and complete whole. That all things are made up of holons. A holon is a sub-system, which is a whole, and at the same time a part of a larger whole. (Arthur Koesler) It means the interrelatedness of all things, organic wholeness, non-separation of lives, the great chain of being, ecology, universal kinship. It is the unity and struggle of opposites as holons unite themselves to larger wholes and the same time struggle for their autonomy--as of night and day, death and life, male and female, yin and yang. Holism holds that the universe is made up of complete integrated systems or wholes, which stretch, from the micro to the macrocosmic levels. That the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. That everything is related to its context, hence, is dependent on the whole. Process and change therefore exceeds static stability. That all parts of the Kosmos form one vast, complex, inextricable whole.
