Now that there is an intense financial crisis, it is high time to ask, What really is money? Every commodity and product that we produce has a use value and money is the only thing that we produce that has no use value except for exchange. If you are lost in the middle of the jungle and you have a million dollars, that amount means nothing without the market. You may just simply burn the money to keep you warm and that is all. If you cannot exchange your money in the market then its useless. The irony is that money which has no use except for exchange has now become the measure of value in the world. Wars have been launched for money. Human life has an equivalent in money. Mother nature can be prostituted for money. People are laid off just to make more money for the big businesses. Even love can be temporarily bought by money. Our values have been overtaken by money. That which is nothing has now become everything. This is the major contradiction with our world today. We have sold our souls to that which is nothing and have become slaves to money. Behind the glamour and the glitter, behind the fast cars and beautiful women, behind the affluence and the pride, lie lonely spirits, lost souls, poverty stricken lands, damaged economies, destroyed forests, polluted air, starving children....all because of money. When money has conquered the world, it will then finally reveal its real essence---nothingness. This is what happening to the stock exchange....suddenly that which we have considered as everything has become nothing...overnight.
