Why would hate always defeat us and why would love always conquer all? Quite a question but let me venture an answer. When we hate someone, we focus all our energy and consciousness on the person we hate. Thus we pattern our lives on the object of our hate; we dedicate our forces and ourselves to get back at the person or object of hate. We are driven to give more than we can give as an expression of our hate and because of this we feel stronger, more alive, more committed to our hate. In the end, we become what we hate in order to defeat the person or object of our hate. Once the person or object of hate is no more, we unconsciously find out that we are already what we hate and turn our destructive energies against ourselves. Remember Darth Vader or Frozen Throne...? Thats the power of the dark force. But the power of love works on the opposite...to give bread to the one who throws you a stone will turn whatever hate against itself and dissipate immediately. The darkness is immediately put to light and will have to disappear. When love touches the evil person, he will recoil because he will feel compelled to face his own evil...if there is still hope...he will be transformed....if not he will die at the expense of his own evil...but this is yet another form of transformation. Whatever negative energies one delivers to you, a loving smile, a look of understanting, a compassionate touch is powerful enough to dispel the negativity. When St. Francis of Assisi was begging for money for the poor, one rich man spat on him while saying bad words. St Francis smiled and said, "Thanks, that is for me. How about what you can give to the poor?" And the rich man immediately became his disciple. You see how love conquers all.
