Mirna Salamanqués´s Monograms & Taoists Symbols by Humberto Pérez S.
Posted On 08/23/2007 11:44:05 by mirnasalamanques

Through observation of rolling clouds and mist, undulating ocean waves, rising steam and smoke of burning incense _the most intangible of all phenomena- Mirna Salamanqués establishes linear representations of change, movement and energy.

The basic grammar of her artistic language constitutes a unique form of rhythmic linearity.  In most of Mirna´s Monograms and Symbols, colour boldness is attained after extensive preparation of the painting´s surface with abundant coatings of modeling paste mixed with paint but her real artistry shows up when the colour, after numerous applications of irridiscent veils, acquires a hypnotic glow and turns into a radiant field surrounding the chinese taoist characters that carry meanings of hapiness, prosperity, protection and longevity.

As she stated recently in an interview:  "My work is an on going quest on the subjects of inner movements, spiritual energy, color reflections and iridiscence."  Her current research and experimental art work include a wide range of pictograms but among those she recurrently depicts the ones whose calligraphic design ressembles a small human figure that she calls "the cosmic dancer" and whose role is to interact with a changing universe throung energetic postures.  Each and everyone of these dancers appears in a particular colour field capable of enhancing psychic and healing potential.  And as the artist gathers them in a sort of cosmic dance, they appear to be dancing all together in a life renewal ceremony.
