I am old enough to remember as a little child the time when people were using DDT like sugar, just everywhere. Only years later some 'experts' started to talk about deteriorating environment and horrifying consequences of toxic pollution. I decided to become environmentalist and obtained master degree in ‘Water technologies and Environment’. After that I was working for years as a researcher designing the treatment systems for the Waste Waters from Chemical Industry. There are countless sources of information about our environment contaminated with the toxic by-products of our technological advances.
Just for illustration, National Geographic published in Oct. 2006 an article titled: ‘The chemicals within Us’, which starts: “Thanks to modern chemistry, eggs do not stick to the pan, underarms are fresh all day, SUVs hit 60 in six seconds. But such convenience has a price: Chemicals that suffuse modern life – from well-known toxins to newer compounds with unknown effects – are building up in our bodies and sometimes staying there for years”. As a part of this article you can explore
Our toxic homes, a close-up view in the interactive image illustrating different chemicals present in our toxic homes.
You will find short description for eight categories of chemicals, some clearly toxic, other only suspected of being harmful. You can read: ‘Pesticides harming more than just the bugs; PCBs long banned, they are still around; Bis-phenols are hormones occurring in water bottles. We cannot run home to escape chemicals that infiltrate our bodies. Our dwellings are rife with them. See for yourself where they are, where they come from and if you can avoid them.’
The consequences are that our toxic homes make us sick! The level of sickness in individual cases may vary from insignificant effects to actual death. The crucial question is: How we can protect ourselves? And the clear reply is: By creating the Cocoon of WELLNESS, a protecting and preventing barrier addressing everyday concerns. It is clear but may not be simple or easy done.
Total Wellness, as understood in few last years, includes four main areas: rest & relaxation, fitness, environment and nutrition. By paying appropriate attention to each of these areas, we can actually create a cocoon of wellness, which will support our well-being and sustain quality of our lives for remarkable longer time. Some of you may be even familiar with the possibility of ‘Reverse aging’.
I can see Total Wellness as a two-stage process. First stage, I call general awareness, when every individual has to collect enough information needed to make a firm pro-wellness decision and commitment. Second stage, I call physical launching, which actually manifest into the cocoon of wellness, what is on-going process for the rest of the life. Simply said: ‘Discover it and live it every day!’
Some of you may ask: “What should be discovered?” Well, wellness became a very powerful selling word. There are many ‘providers’, who tag their products and/or services with wellness but they do not deliver. Just one example, on Feb. 20th ConsumerAffairs.com published an article:
“Ionic Breeze Suit Drives Sharper Image into Bankruptcy” and ‘potentially unhealthy levels of ozone’ were the problem.
Somebody told me recently: “There is a jungle out there, how I can know who is saying true and who wants me to sale on something?” The best recommendation in this case (or any other case) is to get knowledge. Knowledge is power and the best thing is that the knowledge in today’s world can be free.
My blogs ‘Living Water’, ‘Wellness in Air’, and my Forums in fitness ‘Do not exercise – CardioStride!’, in food ‘Cook with flavor of good health’, in home ‘Wellness Home’, ‘Wellness in Air’, and ‘Your drinking Water – do you like it?’, (more are coming, stay tuned) are offering variety of basic information, which, as pieces of puzzle, can help you to increase your wellness awareness and to make intelligent decision why and how you will protect yourself, your loved ones and anybody else you care for.
If resources may seem to be an issue for you, you may want to read the blog
Wellness Revolution. Statistically just $1 spent on prevention can avoid the needs of $9 in treatment. Prevention is much more economical and probably only way to go, besides the fact, that to live a healthy life is much more enjoyable then to live a ‘sick’ life. For more detail information visit
