Crisis and Metamorphosis

Our current civilization is now standing in a tightrope of crisis that for the first time in history, humanity is now beginning to exhaust the very cradle of his existence--Mother Nature. Today's crisis is in great respect totally and qualitatively different from previous ones. It is not just wars or alienation or massive poverty that beset us but it is a crisis that threaten our very existence as a species. Where once we believed that technology can save us from world hunger, wars and ecological destruction, now it is this very technology that created vast poverty, wars, to the point of endangering the very stability of our planet. Where once we believed in unlimited growth and progress, now it is this very growth that may lead us to our doom. Where once we believed in the superiority of being human over all forces of nature, now nature is forcing us to bend on our knees and pay the price of human pride. This may very well be the last lesson that nature will teach us. If we learn the lessons and reinvent our society then we will experience a new era of world peace and ecological harmony. If we fail the lessons, it may very well be our last.

Teachers used to have us write important things to remember over and over when we were little...

"If we fail the lessons, it may very well be our last."

But, for most, the whole idea that they can help to change the world around them is simply too large of a concept to grasp. What can one little stressed-out person do to change any of the bad things happening on our planet today?

For me, I believe that all life on the planet is connected like a large spider-web. There may be some bad things on the web that are doing things to make the web fall apart, but that the good parts of the web will keep holding. Eventually Ma Spider will fix the places that have fallen apart.

I also believe that if the web is touched, the vibrations from the touch will be felt by all parts of the web like a ripple. Every person on the spiders web can work together to make the web stop vibrating, if we each work on our own little piece of the whole thing.
