Question:

What Type of Exercise Do You Recommend?

Response:

Ideally I recommend both a resistance and cardiovascular form of exercise 3-6 times a week for optimal health. Exercise facilitates circulation which is imperative for cell function. Circulation brings nutrients into the cells and facilitates excretion of toxins. The most efficient and detoxifying exercises incorporate all of or part of the reciprocating gate. This gate is the natural way we are designed to move, walk, run or swim.

Resistance exercise strengthens muscles and is essential for bone health. Recommended weight bearing exercises are those that incorporate multiple muscle groups such as functional resistance training, yoga, and Pilates. Recommended cardiovascular exercises are swimming, rebounding, cycling, jogging, or brisk walking.

Proper form is important while performing your chosen exercise. Exercises that cause severe pain should be avoided.

I advise you to make exercise as fun as possible. It is easier to stick to a workout routine when exercise is enjoyable. Activities such as hiking, rebounding on a trampoline, racquetball, a basketball game, mountain biking, rollerblading are just a few activities that can be fun and healthy at the same time. Also the more fun we implement in our lives enriches our mental health.
