Its about food not oil

Hello,

Not sure why it posted my last one, but anyway.

The rise in the price of oil has little to do with the energy sector directly. It is all to do with eventually selling us the idea that genetically modified food is the only way to solve this artificial spike in the price of food.

Did you know that in the cradle of civilisation they have banned farmers from saving their own seed. In Iraq, they passed a law banning farmers from saving their own seed. This is ridiculous. Well if all goes to plan we will eventually need a licence to even grow our own food. Patenting life is wrong.

Next time your in the woods, see if you can see the trees.

Hi 024U -- Happy Tuesday!

I believe that you are probably right about our current energy crisis backers not listing everything on the evening news for our consideration. It smells like there's something up... I just haven't figured out exactly what it is yet.

Here in America we're basically being told to dump perfectly good food on a daily basis. I think that the practice is a crime and it upsets me. Not many years back, our food manufacturers went to dating products with the date that you must throw the food out... Which is all fine and dandy, except that the dates are not always accurate for when the food will lose nutritional value or become spoiled.

Also, some of our recurring biggest news stories are about people getting sick from samonella poisoning... Like this is something scary, current, and new. But, everybody used to just know that you must cook eggs before eating them, or that eggs would make you sick if you left them laying in the sun.

Food wasn't a national health crisis every time somebody got sick from not cooking their food right. But, it is now. It's big news. Something just doesn't seem right to me about what the news is saying right now about food. The news has changed in tone recently.

With so many on our planet needing more food than what they have, it is a shame that we all can't just get together and share.

Thank you for telling us about the situation with banned seed saving in Iraq. I am certainly going to go do a little global research on this issue. How many other countries can't save their own seeds now?

Hello,

Thanks for replying. Firstly, their isn't a shortage of food at all. There is plenty to go around, and there is certainly plenty of land available to grow more. The best source of this available, easy to access land is actually our own back gardens. I am interested now in figuring out a way to grow food in residential gardens collectively. (big job for me). Anyway that is where I believe we need to focus our efforts.

One other thing. I used to work in public parks, we had a small stint in the 90's of planting fruit trees in the public parks. The idea being that after exerting some energy on the swings at the right time of year you might find an apple, or walnut, or mmmm my favourite a nectarine. There is land everywhere. It is just how we use it.

On the patenting life topic. The best place to start a search is to learn about the Percy Schmeiser story.

Have fun, it is an interesting topic.

I agree with the whole idea of planting food in public places and getting rid of the grass around homes to plant gardens to grow on that precious water instead.

How did the park fruit experiment go for you? Here, there's something about offering things for free that brings out the worst in people. They see a freebie and feel like they have to take everything that is free for themselves instead of understanding that things are there for everybody to enjoy.
