Loving Yourself

Question:

Well i don't know who will be responding...

Unfortunately, i have found myself walking down the wrong path too many times. I too share love for the planet, animals, and people. Mostly, i let the anger that dwells inside, take over. I find myself angry too many times with the world. I forget to look at the beauty that lies within each person. I came to columbia for a month, in order to try to find myself and learn to love myself. I know that if i don't love my self, i cant love anyone else. I found someone who has helped me here, and it seems as if we've known each other for many lives. He told me that when i get back to miami, i need to surround myself by good people. The environment that i was in, wasn't too spiritually healthy. I wanted to know, how did you learn to love yourself? What can i do to help myself, if i have become too materialistic and ummm... prideful?

thanks a lot

Response:

The most important relationship is the one that you have with yourself.

I recommend doing things that will help you dial into the magic of loving energies such as meditation, looking for the good in life and others, and immersing your mind, body, and soul in the delights of nature.

It is also imperitive that you provide your mind with the nutrients needed to function properly...you may find this helpful:

These activities will help you to dial into loving energies better than most and when you do access this magic you will discover the love for yourself is easier to experience
When you dial into loving energies you will feel less of the negative emotions and more of the brilliance of life.

It sounds as if your friend gave you some healthy advice and if you post this in a forum or blog...I'm sure you will receive a lot of other wonderful advice.

Thank you for being who you are...the world is a more beautiful place because of you!

Bliss, blessings, love and light!
Your Friend,
STEVEN

Hi,

My current passion in life is Non-violent Communication(NVC).  In using NVC we make a neutral observation, identify the feelings associated with the observation and then identify the needs that are met or unmet depending on whether it is a positve emotion or negative emotion.  The we make a request to get our unmet need met.  Needs as used in NVC are slightly different than the typical use of need.  The words wants or desires can be substituted for needs.

I'm going to have to do some guessing here since I can't talk to you and get clarification.

1.  The neutral observation here would be your thoughts.  "i have become too materialistic and ummm... prideful?"

2.  (Feelings) You expressed anger in your post so I will go with that, you are angry because you are judging yourself as prideful and materialistic and you don't like being judgmental.

3.  (Needs) Your needs for self love and self acceptance are not being met.

4.  (Request) When you notice yourself judging yourself would you be willing to stop take a deep breathe think about times when you have been happy with yourself?  Maybe you made someone smile, you were able to contribute to someone else's well being.

Would you be willing to let me know if this exercise in NVC has been helpful?

Namaste,

Jeff
