The Moose Outside

I just have to share this one; Catherine blew-it.  Yep, I completely messed-up.

Every morning, I enjoy taking a walk with a special friend... early, before my scenic little Western town wakes up and gets noisy. Right outside of town is wilderness, so I'm always seeing wildlife passing through to grab a few bites out of somebody's flower bed, or in town to drink dry the bird baths.

I'm a writer. I have a request that I haven't accepted yet, to write a comedy article about Sarah Palin... "the moose slayer".

This morning, after starting my walk at temperature 26 degree's dressed in my snow beanie etc... It starts to drizzle rain. Water warmer than freezing that was making walking a little bit slick. So, I have my head down staring at the ground as I'm walking along --- talking about ideas on how to write a good "moose slayer" story.

My friend and I are discussing moose ideas back and forth, and I turn the corner a second or so before they do --- my eyes are still down. Behind me I hear this loud

'MOOOSSSSEEEE' - 'MOOOOSSSSEEEE' - 'MOOOOSSSEEE' call out of my friend. Without looking up, I go, "Yeah!!! That's exactly the tone I need to write... Now, how do I wiggle this into being? Do I need a price charming to go with the "moose slayer"???

Again, there's this call of.... 'MOOOSSSSEEEE' - 'MOOOOSSSSEEEE' - 'MOOOOSSSEEE' behind me and a wet pinecone is sailed into my back. I look up...

Okie-Dokie. Now I'm staring a moose in the eye. Too close. Way too close for my confort. They have soft brown eyes... and bad breath, by the way.

It's hunting season. Somebody probably scared this poor Bullwinkle away from its home, and the shooting naturally stops when the animals enter town. I was lucky, Bullwinkle was not trying to defend his home, he was freaked-out and chose to run in the opposite direction from where I was standing.

After what seemed like a million years, I finally got my camera out of the pack and got only one photo as he took off towards the downtown area. Not even a good photo.

Story of my life. Daydreaming while I should be snapping photos.

Happy Thoughts to All :) Catherine

What a great story though - and an eventful morning walk! Chance encounters with nature and creatures (as long as they don't go poorly) can be so magical and inspirational. And, now you have some more fodder for your article!
