The Sleep is the cornerstone of Wellness
Posted On: 03/28/2008 19:33:49
Sleeping may seems like an activity so basic, and taken for granted, that you may assume it is pretty much the same no matter what kind of conditions you are in. Despite of extensive research during last fifty years the Science of Sleep still reminds drowsy. The only thing we know for sure: Sleep is an active state that affects both physical and mental well-being. A good night’s sleep can help you cope with stress, solve problems or recover from illness. During deep sleep the body repairs and regenerates tissues, builds bone and muscle and seems to strengthen the immune system.

But the luxury of a good night sleep – waking up feeling relaxed, refreshed and ready to take on the day is not that common. Some seventy million people in U.S. admit to having sleep problems. If you are one of them, you may want to read: ‘What do you know about sleep?’ and find out what are the dangers of poor sleep in numbers besides crankiness and senior moments. You may be surprised!

Scientific evidence shows that failure to sleep results not just in fatigue, but also in difficulties with concentration, poor memory, irritability, anxiety, easy frustration and even trouble controlling impulses and emotions plus more stress on top of it. Moreover, lack of sleep actually appears to heighten the risk for variety of major illnesses, including cancer, heart disease, diabetes and obesity. There is one more important element.

The repairing period is essential also because of ever-growing environmental damages. Today’s environment is constantly assaulting our bodies with positive radicals, also known as aging accelerators, which damage our health. But the chemical pollution together with deforestation, electrification and electronics (also known as electronic pollution) have been destroying the Earth’s magnetic field for last two hundred years. As a result of this process the Earth’s magnetic field is up to twelve percent lower than two hundred years ago.

The biorhythm of living cells operates optimally against the backdrop of the earth’s natural magnetic field and our bodies did not yet adjust to be able to handle the deficiency of natural magnetic field. Many of us unknowingly suffer from Magnetic Deficiency Syndrome (MDS). The symptoms of MDS include stiffness of the shoulders, back and neck; low back pain; chest pain; habitual headache and heaviness of the head; dizziness and insomnia; habitual constipation and general fatigue for seemingly no specific reason. Our exposure to various negative environmental influences leads gradually to the degradation of our bodies. As the body degrades, it begins to malfunction, what equals to disease.

About hundred million people in U.S. are malfunctioning and the main reason is lack of proper sleep. Those who report the following medical conditions are most likely to experience a sleep problem: depression (83%), nighttime heartburn (82%), diabetes (81%), cancer (79%), hypertension (79%), heart disease (78%) and/or arthritis (76%). There is significant number of those who sleep, but not deeply enough to give bodies the health benefits that truly rejuvenating deep sleep provides.

“We have to educate Americans that a good night’s sleep is a necessity, not a luxury“, Richard L. Gelula, Executive Director of the National Sleep Foundation. Getting the right amount and quality of sleep may make you healthier and more productive. Good sleep is just as important as good nutrition, exercising, clinically clean air, and life-supporting water. Your health depends on it. Sleep your way to WELLNESS.
