Thank you for your kindness Kellie. ^_^ It took many years before I was able to truly forgive my father. Once I did so, so much weight had dropped from my shoulders. Understanding that what he did was wrong but at the same time realizing that he is a product of his lifetime gives me peace. Back then, the majority of the people in Taiwan was raised "traditionally"; that meant imposing physical abuse with varying degree of severity when a child either did something "wrong" or disagreed with the parents. It was a culture of "no pain, no gain" -- something that even pervaded through the education system. In that period, teachers had full authority to inflict physical punishment when a student did not perform well in school or misbehaved, and such a system was approved by parents. Naturally, people accepted child abuse as a part of life and culture. It wasn't until years later when children started to fight back for their own safety in both the household and school that reform were put in place. It would have been better if reforms were made before extreme cases of violence took place--when children killed their parents or teacher because they were fed up with being abused, but sadly, that's usually how a social reform works... it'd take some extreme situation to propel a better solution.
We do have it much better in the U.S. when compared to other countries, but there still are a lot of child abuse going on undetected. What are some solutions that you feel are effective in the fight against child abuse?

1st and for most i believe we must admit its going on and not turn a blind eye to it like so many people due out of fear. When we finally start being honest with ourselves then we can do alot.Theres so many ways to report and help if we just look. i live 1 blk away from an elemantary school and i have 150 sexaul predators living within 1 mile of me. thats a breach of the law thats not being inforced. i have printed out and went to the police wrote to the mayor and told everyone i can come into contact with where these people are. thats where i have started in my community.
